Description
In 2006, Livable Places, Bikestation and the Trust for Public Land sponsored a popular talk by visionary Enrique Peñalosa, the former mayor of Bogotá, Colombia. Building on that success, Livable Places is launching the Envisioning Green Los Angeles speaker series. With seed funding from the California Community Foundation, Livable Places is assembling a series of 10 speakers on urban livability topics from global warming, to traffic, to gentrification, to urban design.
The purpose of the Envisioning Green Los Angeles speakers series is to create a public dialogue around how we increase sustainability in Los Angeles in light of the needs of our growing population The series of highly publicized talks will look at the big picture of Los Angeles’ future. By talking about different development models and their impact on critical issues such as the environment, traffic and housing affordability, Envisioning Green Los Angeles can set the stage for better planning by familiarizing more people with the real challenges and achievable, creative solutions.
Livable Places has begun to assemble speakers; tentatively the 2008 series will include
- Gordon Price, former Vancouver City Councilmember and insightful speaker on urban development, transportation and planning (February 11 2008)
