The Alliance For A Livable Los Angeles

The Alliance for a Livable Los Angeles is a diverse group of organizations with backgrounds in affordable housing, environmental justice, faith-based organizations, transportation equity, economic and community development, and land use planning. The mission of the Alliance is to help make the City of Los Angeles more livable for everyone, by creating more affordable housing, transportation options and neighborhood open space and ensuring that residents have a say in the decision-making processes, especially low-income residents who are too often left out.

Members of the Alliance include:

The Alliance has three initiatives underway. The first one is to educate ourselves and the members of our organizations on the multi-disciplinary issues around equitable development and improving livability. This is done primarily through expert presentations at the monthly meetings.

The second initiative involves educating local candidates for elected office on our issues. The Alliance developed a briefing paper (link) and packet of information that was distributed to all the candidates on the March 2003 ballot for City Council and the LA Unified School Board. The Alliance is in the process of meeting with the candidates who made it to the May run-off election as well as newly elected officials. The Alliance also spearheaded a very successful candidate forum in Council District 10 that was attended by over 170 people.

The third initiative is the YIMBY Brigade which supports proposed quality affordable housing developments in public hearings. (See below)

If you are interested in joining the Alliance please contact either Jerilyn Lopez Mendoza at Environmental Defense or Beth Steckler at Livable Places.
