High Speed Rail - YES
More Study on Downtown LA Route - YES

The California High Speed Rail Authority (HSRA) is set to unveil the final EIR/EIS on August 3, 2005. The Natural Resources Defense Council has written a letter to urge the HSRA to defer selection of a preferred alignment between Burbank and Union Station and, instead, to formerly designate this area as a "corridor for further study." Livable Places has endorsed the letter.

In late June, Congressman Becerra, State Assemblywoman Goldberg, LA City Councilmember Reyes hosted a community workshop to offer more information on the California high-speed train system. At that forum the Executive Director of the HSRA, Mehdi Morshed, presented information on the currently "preferred alignment" for the high-speed rail and its impacts to the Los Angeles River Master Plan, and Taylor Yard and Cornfield State Parks.

Assemblywoman Jackie Goldberg echoed the concerns of many when she said, "Although I support high-speed rail and its benefits for all Californians, this benefit should not happen at the expense of fracturing our community and degrading our much needed parks." Staff report and generalized maps of route available on line as part of EIR.

On July 18 the Los Angeles City Council Ad Hoc Committee on the Los Angeles River heard testimony and recommended adoption of a resolution supporting the high speed rail and calling for the areas to be designated a corridor for further study.
